He apparently earned $10 million each for his roles in ‘The Sum of All Fears’ (2002) and ‘Changing Lanes’ (2002) and $6 million for his part in ‘Reindeer Games’ (2000). Zemdaya developed an interest in entertainment at a very young age, starting in plays at age 6 and dancing at age 8. She continued with local Bay Area theater and dance until she and her family moved from the Bay Area to Los Angeles when she was about 13.

Zendaya’s Modeling Career

Celebrity Net Worth reports that Zendaya’s first work was as a model in various ads and as a model-dancer in commercials and music videos. That experience likely served her well in more recent years when she’s done endorsement work including spokes modeling. Brands she’s aligned with for endorsements including Lancôme, Valentino, Bulgari, CoverGirl, Beats Electronics, Chi Hair Care, and Madonna’s Material Girl clothing line.

Zendaya’s Acting Career

Zendaya transitioned from stage acting to screen acting, beginning to work on Disney movies that gained her success. In 2010, she got the starring role in Disney’s series “Shake It Up,” one of the channel’s most popular series. The show aired for three seasons, during which she had other roles, including a starring role in the Disney movie “Frenemies” in 2012. Her next big starring role on a Disney Channel series was as “K.C. Undercover,” a role that she had from 2015-2018.

Zendaya’s dance background has lent itself to her acting career over the year. For example, she hosted Disney’s 2011 show: “Make Your Mark: Ultimate Dance Off 2011” and she was on Dancing With The Stars one season where she got second place. In a similar vein, she played a trapeze artist in the film “The Greatest Showman,” putting her dance abilities to use in a new way, since she reportedly rarely used stunt doubles on the film.

In recent years, she has continued to grow her career with interesting roles on both the small screen and the big screen. On the small screen, she started playing Rue Bennett on the HBO show “Euphoria” in 2019. On the big screen, you’ve seen her in the 2017 and 2019 Spider-Man movies. She played Chani in “Dune” in 2021 and is currently filming “Dune: Part 2.”

Zendaya’s Music Career

Zendayas net worth comes not just from acting and dancing but also from her music career. She released her single “Swag It Out,” in 2011, while she was ramping up her career with Disney. In 2013, she published a book titled: “Between U and Me: How to Rock Your Tween Years with Style and Confidence.” In 2015 she launched the Daya shoe collection and followed it the next year with the Daya clothing line. Cosmopolitan describes that one as “a gender- and size-inclusive clothing line that launched alongside an app.” She knows how to diversify her income. Cosmo also reports that she has a clothing collab with Tommy Hilfiger.

Zendaya has nearly 150 million followers on Instagram and about 87 million on TikTok. She also has 21 million Twitter followers, 19 million Facebook followers, and almost 4 million on YouTube.

Celebrity Net Worth usually has the most up-to-date information as compared to other sources. Therefore, we turned to them to find out Zendayas net worth. They report Zendayas net worth at $20 million. Note that many other sources online say $15 million. Although they didn’t know what she got paid for each of her three Spider-Man movie roles, they did uncover that she received $10 million just in bonuses alone on just one of those films.

Have your eyes been glued to the Amber Heard / Johnny Depp defamation lawsuits? The jury reached a decision in early June 2022. How does that affect Johnny Depp’s net worth?

A Complicated Defamation Lawsuit

We discussed the lawsuit a lot already in last week’s post about Amber Heard’s net worth. So, we’ll just give a brief rundown again here:

  • The couple married in 2015.
  • In 2016, Amber Heard filed for divorce. She also filed for a restraining order, alleging domestic violence.
  • In 2018, she published an op-ed piece on domestic violence. In response, Johnny Depp filed a lawsuit against her for defamation.
  • In 2021, she filed a counter lawsuit, saying that he and his attorneys were guilty of defamation against her.
  • They went to trial in early 2022. He was asking for $50 million. She was asking for $100 million. Ultimately, he won a little over $10 million from her. She received only $2 million. This put her, as of now, at a celebrity net worth of NEGATIVE $6 million. We’ll look at how it’s impacted Johnny Depp’s net worth.

Lawsuits Are (And Are Not) About Money

Ultimately, lawsuits are about money. When you sue someone for defamation, you try to prove that they maliciously lied about you. So, you’re debating the facts of the case, but the decision that the jury makes is a financial one. They determine how you were damaged and award you money accordingly. In this instance, Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and another $5 million in punitive damages. However, the state of Virginia places a cap on the latter at $350,000, so that’s all he’s entitled to out of the $5 million in punitive damages.

If you watched the trial, though, you probably weren’t watching because you cared about the financial outcome. Sure, that’s interesting, especially when you’re talking about damages in the millions. But people were transfixed by this case because it’s about domestic abuse, sexual violence, the #MeToo movement, relationships, mental health, and the power of celebrity. Vox.com has a comprehensive article about the details of the case if you’re not all caught up.

How the Trial Impacts Johnny Depp’s Net Worth

So, technically, Johnny Depp won a little over $10 million in this 2022 lawsuit. Since the two are already divorced, and the settlement for that is long complete, they no longer share income. So, in theory, he should be $10 million richer now. However, it might not be that simple. Amber Heard reportedly doesn’t have the money to pay for this. She has a few options including appealing to reduce the debt and filing for bankruptcy. So, ultimately, how this impacts Johnny Depp’s net worth is yet to be fully seen. That said, he’s worth a significant amount of money, so much so, in fact, that this $10 million is but a drop in the bucket.

Johnny Depp Net Worth and Income

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Johnny Depp earns about $20 million per film. In other words, he earns twice what Amber Heard owes him each time he stars in a movie. (Of course, due to the controversy surrounding the trial, his job offers and the salary that comes with them could shift.)

It says that he is one of the “highest-paid actors on the planet.” He’s earned over $100 million in a single year. In the three-year period from 2013 – 2016, he reportedly earned $650 million. Remember that it was during this time period that he married and divorced Amber Heard. They settled their divorce out of court; she reportedly received just $7 million.

Johnny Depp’s Acting Career

Johnny Depp has been an A-list actor for many, many years. Of course, he didn’t always earn $20 million per film. Nevertheless, he’s done well for himself for a really long time. Born in 1963, his first huge role was in the television series “21 Jump Street,” which started in 1987.  (He had already been in several other shows, shorts, and films including “Nightmare on Elm Street.”) Celebrity Net Worth reports that he earned about $45,000 per episode for that show.

Just as “21 Jump Street” was coming to an end, Depp starred in “Edward Scissorhands.” He has consistently starred in outstanding movies since the 1990s. These include, among many more:

  • “Benny and Joon”
  • “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?”
  • “Donnie Brasco”
  • “Sleepy Hollow”
  • “Chocolat”
  • “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”
  • “Sweeney Todd”
  • “Alice in Wonderland.”
  • “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”
  • “Murder on the Orient Express”
  • “From Hell”
  • “Finding Neverland”

Of course, he’s also famous for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in several versions/sequels of “Pirates of the Caribbean.” These roles contributed greatly to Johnny Depp’s net worth.

IMDB lists his most recent role as Johnny Puff in the TV mini-series “Puffins Impossible,” and says that he’s currently filming a series called just “Puffins.” It also has him listed as in pre-production for the film “Jeanne Du Barry.”

Johnny Depp’s Other Income

Like many celebrities, Depp has diversified his income, although most of Johnny Depp’s net worth does come from his acting. He’s a longtime musician, fronting bands before he even started making a name as an actor. He co-wrote and performed on two albums with Hollywood Vampires, a group he formed with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry.

He is the founder and CEO of a production company that he started in 2004.

Johnny Depp’s Net Worth

So, what is this famous actor’s net worth? According to Celebrity Net Worth, Johnny Depp is worth about $150 million. This is in spite of the fact that he’s infamous for lavish spending. Celebrity Net Worth reports that he’s been known to spend over $3.6 million per year. The costs include dozens of staff including bodyguards, extensive travel on private jets, wine and art. Of course, some of what he spends is on assets that are worth money. He reportedly owns more than 45 cards, for example, as well as 14 homes. So, Johnny Depp earns a lot, he spends a lot, he has assets, and he’s ultimately worth about $150 million.

If you follow celebrity news, then you were probably glued to the Amber Heard / Johnny Depp court case. The case was trending. Court news coverage got higher ratings than any time in the recent past. People had many opinions about all aspects. The case was about mental health, domestic violence, and defamation. However, when it comes right down to the final judgment, the court case was about money. Johnny Depp essentially won the case in June 2022. What does that mean for Amber Heard’s Net Worth?

Who Is Amber Heard?

Amber Heard is an actress, and of course, the ex-wife of actor Johnny Depp. According to IMDB, she was born in April 1986 in Texas. She dropped out of school as a teenager, moving to New York in an attempt to start a modeling career. She subsequently moved to Los Angeles where she began her acting career.

Amber Heard’s Acting Career

Most of the Amber Heard net worth comes from her work as an actress. Beginning in 2004, she started having small roles in both TV and films. Early credits include appearances on the television shows “Jack and Bobby,” “The Mountain,” “The OC,” and “Criminal Minds.” At the same time, she had appearances in films like “Friday Night Lights,” “Drop Dead Sexy,” and “Spin.”

Her first recurring television role was as Greta Matthews in the show “Hidden Palms” in 2007. She continued to appear in many small and big screen roles over the ensuing years. Her next recurring TV role was as Maureen in “The Playboy Club” in 2011. That same year she hit her stride with her first major role in 2008’s “Pineapple Express.” The following year, she was in “Zombieland” and “The Stepfather.” 2009 was also the year she started filming 2011’s “The Rum Diary,” which is where she met Johnny Depp. As Vox.com explains, she had started “playing the love interest of A-listers.”

In 2015, she was in “The Adderall Diaries” and “Magic Mike XXL.” In 2017, she began to play the lead role of Mera in the “Aquaman” franchise. This franchise includes “Justice League,” “Aquaman,” “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” which is currently in post-production and is due out in 2023. As you can tell, the role of Mera has contributed significantly to Amber Heard’s net worth.

What Is Amber Heard’s Income?

Celebrity Net Worth reported that prior to the defamation trial with Johnny Depp, which will dig into shortly, Amber Heard’s net worth was about $2.5 million. They attributed it to her acting career, with some of the numbers as follows:

  • She earned $10 million in pre-tax income between 2013-2019.
  • In 2019 alone, she earned $3 million.
  • Much of her money comes from the Aquaman franchises. She received about half a million for the first movie, twice that first the next movie, and double that again for the third movie. She was reportedly guaranteed $3-$4 million for the fourth film.
  • In terms of what she earns from television appearances, she reportedly earned nearly $2 million for her nine episodes of “The Stand.”
  • In addition to acting income, she receives money from celebrity endorsements. For example, she earned over $1.5 million from a two-year contract with L’Oreal.

Vox.com explains that Amber Heard met Johnny Depp in 2009 on the set of “The Rum Diary.” They were both dating other people at the time. However, three years later, they were both out of those other relationships, and they had begun to date one another. They were married in 2015. One year later, Amber Heard filed for divorce. A few days after filing, she filed for a restraining order against Johnny Depp.

That started the ball rolling toward the recent trial. She alleged domestic violence, and Depp’s lawyer immediately issued a statement accusing her of lying in order to set herself up for a good financial divorce settlement. In August 2016, the two settled their divorce out of court. Reportedly, Heard received $7 million from the divorce, which she stated at the time she planned to donate to charity. Vox.com reports that she said she’d give half of it to the ACLU and that the ACLU confirms that she did donate, but only $1.3 million, which is less about half of what she’d said she would give.

Depp’s Lawsuit Against Amber Heard

In 2018, in the way of the #MeToo movement, Amber Heard was named an ACLU ambassador for women’s rights. In that role, she wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post about her experience with sexual violence. She didn’t specifically name Depp as her abuser, but it appeared to be implied. In March 2019, Depp sued her for $50 million for defamation because of that article. Essentially, he said that she new that she was lying about domestic violence when she published her 2018 article, and that she lied with malicious intent.

Note: there have been two similar lawsuits in which Depp sought damages for defamation. This US case against Heard is the second one. The first one, in 2020, was a UK lawsuit against The Sun for publishing domestic abuse claims. Heard testified for The Sun and Depp lost the UK case.

Amber Heard’s Lawsuit Against Johnny Depp

Things don’t end there, however. In January 2021, Amber Heard filed her own lawsuit, seeking $100 million from Johnny Depp. This, too, was a defamation lawsuit. She said that Depp, through his lawyers, alleged domestic violence by her that he knew wasn’t true. The trial that finally concluded in June 2022 covered both Depp’s lawsuit against Amber Heard and her countersuit against him.

How Does Trial Judgment Affect Amber Heard’s Net Worth?

Vox.com explains that as of June 1, 2022, Johnny Depp won $15 million in damages from his trial against Amber Heard. It’s a little bit more complicated than that, however. Of that $15 million, he won $5 million in punitive damages. However, the state of Virginia caps punitive damages at $350,000. Therefore, even though he won $5 million, he’s actually only able to collect $350,000. However, the other $10 million of compensatory damages isn’t capped. So, in total, he’s able to collect $10.35 million from the lawsuit. So, he receives about 1/5 of the $50 million he initially sued for.

Amber Heard asked for $100 million. The jury didn’t find her arguments nearly as compelling as they found Depp’s. They only awarded her $2 million in damages, for one instance in which Depp defamed her through his attorney. So, as far as the lawsuit goes, she effectively comes out at a little more than $8 million lost. That’s essentially how the trial judgment will affect Amber Heard’s net worth.

What Is Amber Heard’s Net Worth?

Celebrity Net Worth reports that prior to the trial, Amber Heard’s net worth was approximately $2.5 million. As a result, with the current judgment against her, they now put the 2022 Amber Heard net worth at NEGATIVE $6 million. However, they note that there are some factors that might alter this, not the least of which could be a reduction in damages if the case goes to appeals. Her homeowner’s insurance might cover some of her costs, but this is unclear. If she isn’t able to pay the money owed, and the damages aren’t dismissed, she might consider bankruptcy, although that outcome is unclear at this time.
