About Mike Myers’ Career

Myers was born on May 25, 1963, in Ontario. His parents were both from Liverpool. He grew up with in Canada with two older brothers and was raised Protestant. Today, he holds both Canadian and British citizenship.

The actor got an early start to his career by acting in commercials at the young age of two. By the age of 10, he made a commercial for British Columbia Hydro and just two years later he made his first TV series debut in King of Kensington. 
Once he graduated high school, he was accepted into a Canadian touring company called Second City. His time with the touring company ended when he moved to the United Kingdom. In the U.K., he played a key role in founding members of The Comedy Store Players, an improv group in London.

In 1986, he starred in Wide Awake Club, a British children’s program before returning to Canada and the Second City touring company. He remained there for two years as a cast member in the touring company’s stage show before moving to Chicago. In Chicago, he trained and performed. He also taught at the Improv Olympic.

During this time, Myers made a number of appearances as different characters, including Wayne Campbell. Wayne, one of Myers’ most beloved characters, was a hit. He reappeared on TV shows and interviews time and time again.

Myers also wrote another sketch during this time called Kurt and Dieter. The sketch co-starred Dana Anderson and later turned into Sprockets, which was featured on Saturday Night Live.

Myers’ Film Career

In 1992, Myers made his film debut. He and Dana Carvey adapted their Saturday Night Live sketches in the motion picture Wayne’s World. It was one of the most successful movies that year and was immediately followed by a sequel in 1993. Myers also starred in So I Married an Axe Murderer that year before taking a two-year hiatus from acting altogether.

This hiatus followed the end of his time on SNL. However, it did not mark the end of Myers’ success. He returned to acting in 1997 in the film Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. As you probably know, he starred in the sequels as well. In addition to playing the title role of Austin Powers, Myers also played the villain (Dr. Evil) and a number of other roles in the films.

Since then, Myers has played a plethora of roles, both big and small. Some of his most famous performances have been in The Cat in the Hat (2003), Shrek and its sequels (2001-2007), The Love Guru (2008), and Inglourious Basterds (2009). He returned to the big screen in 2018 with supporting roles in Terminal and Bohemian Rhapsody. 

For these roles, Myers hasn’t received a huge amount of recognition. He won the MTV Generation Award in 2007. Additionally, Myers has been added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame.
