George Takei’s Net Worth

George Takei's Net Worth

Chances are that if you know George Takei’s name right off the bat then it’s because you’re a fan of “Star Trek: The Original Series.” He played Hikaru Sulu, a role people have long loved him for. However, he’s actually had a very diverse career, mostly (but not entirely) in acting. So let’s take a look at his career. Then let’s figure out George Takei’s net worth.

Who Is George Takei?

George Takei has one of the most comprehensive IMDB profiles we’ve seen. Therefore, if you want to learn more about him, check out his full bio there. To get you started, though, we’ll give you an overview. He was born in 1937 in Los Angeles, California to Japanese-American parents. Unfortunately, Pearl Harbor happened not too long after that, and his family was forced to move to an internment camp in Arkansas. From there they eventually moved to a second camp in Northern California. This experience shaped Takei’s life, and he has been known as much for his activism as for his acting.

In fact, he didn’t originally intend to become an actor. He started out studying architecture at Berkeley. However, while there, he got a summer job dubbing Japanese characters into English for “Rodan.” He immediately discovered that he loved acting. As a result, he transferred to UCLA and majored in theater.

George Takei’s Acting Experience

The dubbing work he’d done at MGM led him to meet an agent. Once in LA, he tapped that connection. He was quickly cast in small roles, starting with an appearance on the TV series “Playhouse 90.” That same year, 1959, he was in four other television and film roles, including an appearance on “Perry Mason.” He continued to appear in various roles, including some recurring television roles, over the next decade, while also continuing his education and eventually getting a Master’s degree.

“Star Trek: The Original Series”

As aforementioned, he’s often best known for his role as Hikaru Sulu in “Star Trek: The Original’s Series.” “Star Trek” is well-known as a series that embraced diversity in its casting. Takei was specifically sought out to increase the racial diversity of the cast for the pilot episode. He went on to appear in more than fifty episodes of the show from 1966-1969.

During those years he continued to take on other small acting roles, including an appearance on “Mission Impossible.” He’s also known for his role as Captain Nimbuses in 1968’s “The Green Berets.”

His “Star Trek” role might have ended in 1969. However, just four years later, “Star Trek: The Animated Series” came along. He voiced his character in nearly two dozen episodes.

Later, he would go on to join the cast of the first six “Star Trek” movies. The series has obviously been a big part of George Takei’s net worth.

Beyond His Acting Career

Obviously, most of George Takei’s net worth comes from acting. He’s clearly a very prolific actor. Oh, and he’s also appeared in a lot of television commercials over the years.

However, somehow he’s found time to do other things with his life as well. He’s authored a number of books, including graphic novels and an autobiography.

Celebrity Net Worth points out that he’s also done work on Broadway. He began stage work in 1961 with “Fly Blackbird!” Over the years he appeared in “Aladdin,” “Equus,” and “8.” From 2012 – 2016, he took to the stage in “Allegiance,” a musical based on his own experiences in those internment camps.

Activism and Politics

Also, as aforementioned, he’s also known for his activism. He’s taken an interest in politics over the years. IMDB reports that he hosted a “public affairs” show in the early 1970s. Around this same time, he ran for office with LA City Council, using by just a small number of votes. However, the mayor appointed him to the Southern California Rapid Transit Distract board of directors where he served for about a decade.

Luis Arturo Villar Sudek's Net Worth

You can make a lot of money off of YouTube. However, it’s not easy. It usually takes a combination of persistence, unique personality, internet marketing know-how, and a little bit of luck. With those things in place, though, you just might have a chance. For example, let’s take a look at Luis Arturo Villar Sudek’s net worth. You might know him better as YouTuber Luisito Comunica.

Who is Luis Arturo Villar Sudek?

If you know him, then it’s probably from his Spanish YouTube channel Luisito Comunica. In fact, people often know him better by that name than by his given name. He’s a Mexican YouTube personality, originally from Puebla but eventually relocating to Mexico City.

InfoBae reports that he was born in 1991. Before becoming a famous YouTuber, he held various jobs. For example, his grandfather had a tailor’s shop that he worked in. He also taught high school English, was a camp counselor and appeared as an extra in films.

Today, he has more than 37 million subscribers on the Luisito Comunica channel alone. This means he has more subscribers than any other YouTube channel in Mexico. However, this isn’t his only YouTube channel. And YouTube isn’t the only thing that he does for work.

Before Luisito Comunica

Obviously, most of Luis Arturo Villar Sudek’s net worth comes from his Luisito Comunica YouTube channel. However, it took time for him to achieve that level of success. This was not his first YouTube channel.

Wikipedia reports that he launched his first YouTube channel in 2007. It was a channel of piano song covers and tutorials. First, he named it Piano Para Gente Cool. Later he renamed it LouieArtie. Unfortunately, it wasn’t particularly successful under either name.

Four years later, he decided to launch a daily life YouTube channel. This one he called OciodeLuisito. He kept at that one for about two years. It has about 160K followers today. Most of his videos have received somewhere between 100K and 250K views. However, his last video upload on that channel, titled “PERREO INCÓMODO (Al Volante),” received more than 2 million views.

While he was still working on that channel, he also joined a collaborative YouTube team. Called NoMeRevientes, the Spanish channel is run by Yayo Gutierrez. Gutierrez is well-known for promoting Mexican YouTubers. The NoMeRevientes group reaped some of those benefits. Clearly, Luisito Comunica did well for himself to join this crew.

Luisito Comunica YouTube Channel

While still collaborating with that group, Luis Arturo Villar Sudek finally launched Luisito Comunica in 2012. He had figured out some of the kinks of the platform. Moreover, networking with others worked for him. As a result, he finally started to see YouTube success. This was where Luis Arturo Villar Sudek’s net worth finally began to grow. He had found his niche.

Luisito Comunica is a Spanish-language YouTube channel. Luis travels around the world, uploading videos of his trips. So, it’s a travel channel with that personal twist. Obviously, people love it. 37 million of them and counting in fact.

Luisito Comunica in English

Eventually, he realized that he might be able to grow further if he could appeal to an English-speaking audience. Therefore, in 2018, he launched another YouTube channel. Titled “Luisito Around the World,” it’s similar to Luisito Comunica except that it’s in English. If you’re interested in travel content and you missed out on the craze of this YouTuber because you don’t know Spanish, then this channel could lead you to love him.

Other Income and Endeavors

Obviously, you can make money on YouTube. However, as any good Internet celebrity knows, you’re wiser if you diversify your income streams. It’s not just enough to have multiple YouTube channels either. In order to grow Luis Arturo Villar Sudek’s net worth even more, he had to branch out. He’s not shy about trying new things.

His recent endeavors over the past few years include:

  • Launched the Rey Paloma clothing line in 2018.
  • Appeared in a film called “Dedicada a mi ex” in 2019.
  • Also dubbed the Latin American Spanish version of “Sonic the Hedgehog,” which caused a bunch of controversies as many Sonic fans said they didn’t want someone who wasn’t a professional voice actor to dub the part!
  • Published a book called “Amazing Places” in 2019. It discusses the best places he’s been, what the culture is like there, etc. In other words, he took the things that made his YouTube channel successful then turned them into book format.
  • Appeared in the COVID-19 themed documentary titled “Aislado: un documental en cuarentena” in 2020.
  • Launched his own cell phone company called PilloFon in 2020. It’s currently available in Mexico. However, he hopes to expand service to the rest of North America soon.
  • According to IMDB, he’s also hosted several shows, including 2020’s Mexico Spotify Awards.

As you can see, he’s been working hard to try new things while growing his income. Although known as a YouTuber, he’s also active on other social media. His Instagram account has more than 28 million followers. He also has about 8 million on Twitter.

What Is Luis Arturo Villar Sudek’s Net Worth?

InfoBae reports that as of May 2021, Luisito Comunica earns about $160,000 per year on YouTube ad income alone. Combined with all of his other sources of income, the source further reports that he earns about $4 million per year. Much of that still comes from YouTube. As a YouTube travel influencer, he’s frequently paid by sponsors that he features in his videos.

Pinning down Luis Arturo Villar Sudek’s net worth has been a little bit difficult. NetWorthSpot explains that there are a lot of predictions out there on the web about it. However, no one has been able to come up with concrete numbers. On that particular site, they determine that a good estimate is between $19.79 million and $27.71 million. However, those numbers are a lot higher than most sites predict:

  • YouTubers.me says it’s between $2.49 million and $14.9 million
  • YouNetworth puts it closer to $6 million
  • Statsmash predicts about $10 million

On the other hand, some sites actually predict higher numbers than NetWorthSpot. For example, Celeb Networth estimates that Luis Arturo Villar Sudek’s net worth is between $22 – 33 million.

As you can see, his net worth really isn’t clear. With as many endeavors as he’s got going on right now, we’d guess that an estimate of around $21 million might be close to the right answer.

What do you think Luis Arturo Villar Sudek’s net worth is?

Brendan Fraser’s Net Worth

Brendan Fraser's Net Worth

Brendan Fraser’s net worth is one of the more interesting topics we get to cover here on Plunged in Debt. This is due partly to the fact that he significantly lost much of his net worth in recent years. Nevertheless, he’s also made a bunch of headlines in 2021. Therefore, it’s an ever-changing story that’s intriguing to follow.

Who is Brendan Fraser?

Brendan Fraser is an American actor born in Indiana to Canadian parents. He moved frequently throughout his early years, spending time in places as diverse as Detroit, Seattle, London, and Rome. While in London, he discovered that he loved theatre. As a result, he decided to study the medium at a Seattle art school. After that, he began to slowly make a name for himself as an actor. If you’re only vaguely familiar with him then it’s probably from his leading role in “George of the Jungle” or some of his other well-known roles in “Encino Man,” “Crash,” or “The Mummy.”

Brendan Fraser’s Film and TV Credits

If you take a look at his full body of acting credits over on IMDB, then you’ll see that he began in 1991 with three TV movie appearances. That same year he was in River Phoenix’s “Dogfight,” albeit in a small role. That led to enough attention that the following year he was in “Encino Man” as well as “School Ties.” He continued to play lots of small and supporting roles, working in several movies, and occasionally on TV shows over the next five years or so.

In 1997, he got the leading role in “George of the Jungle,” which people consider his real breakout moment as an actor. Then came “The Mummy” in 1999, and, of course, “The Mummy Returns” a couple of years later. If you’re a fan of the series, then you know that he was in additional sequels, as well as the voice in related video games, in 2004 and 2008. This would not be the only time his acting would cross over into video games. He performed in “Journey to the Center of the Earth, ” which also had a related video game.

Brendan Fraser’s Work on the Small Screen

Brendan Fraser’s net worth grew steadily in large part to his prolific work. He wasn’t always the star of the show, but he consistently appeared in at least one, and usually many, roles per year. He worked mostly in film, sometimes uncredited. However, he also made TV appearances in “Fallen Angels,” “The Simpsons,” “King of the Hill,” “Scrubs,” and “The Fairly Odd Parents.”

In more recent years, he’s been particularly active on the small screen. In the past six years, he’s had recurring roles on:

  • “Texas Rising”
  • “The Affair”
  • “Trust”
  • “Condor”
  • “Professionals”
  • “Doom Patrol”

Why Brendan Fraser Switched To The Small Screen

Brendan Fraser’s net worth wasn’t the reason he made the switch to TV. Instead, he felt compelled to get out of Hollywood for much more serious reasons. GQ explains a series of events that led to changes in his career. First of all, he was playing a lot of high-action intense figures in his movies. It was great for the screen but unfortunately terrible for his body. He required multiple surgeries as well as a break from this type of work.

In happier things, he got married to Afton Smith in 1998. They had three children together. And although they divorced about a decade later, this was a time worth spending with family.

Blacklisted From Hollywood?

Then comes the real hard part, the real reason he just needed to get away from Hollywood. In 2003, he was molested by Philip Berk, former head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. He didn’t speak about it for years, didn’t know how to speak about it or deal with it. So, in a lot of ways, he just avoided Hollywood. Even 15 years later, he couldn’t say it to the GQ article writer in person. Instead, he phoned him after the initial interview to reveal this information.

Since that time, Fraser has opened up a lot more about the experience. He’s written a memoir that discusses it. The New York Times did an article. And as more and more people (mostly women) have come forward in Hollywood to discuss the prevalence of this problem, he’s become more capable of discussing it. He explains that his disappearance from Hollywood was two-fold. On one hand, he was dealing with trauma and depression, and he didn’t want to put himself back into that scene.

On the other hand, when he tried to get help from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and others in the industry, he felt a lack of support. GQ reports that invites to the Golden Globes stopped. Philip Berk, who denies the allegations, continues to appear at the Golden Globes. But in recent years, many in the industry have started to shun him in support of Fraser. And according to Pop, there’s a whole Tik Tok movement supporting Fraser that’s enough to bring the actor to tears.

The prolific actor did continue to appear in small parts every year after the incident and up until the present time. And soon he found his niche in TV shows for a time.

Upcoming New Work from Brendan Fraser

Brendan Fraser’s net worth took a nosedive during those tough years. However, he’s had a lot of time to process. Equine therapy, time with his family, time away from Hollywood, and years of personal growth have made him ready to make movies again. And he’s got a lot on his plate.

Pop explains that he’s playing the main character in “Whale.” This is a serious film about a 600-pound man who binge eats due to guilt. He’s attempting to connect with his estranged daughter. This is obviously a more serious role than many he’s played in the past. Perhaps that’s perfectly right for someone who is older now and who has been through so much.

Other recent and upcoming films are, “No Sudden Move,” “Behind the Curtain of Night,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” (currently filming), and “Brothers,” which is in pre-production. “Killers of the Flower Moon” is a Scorsese film also starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro. We don’t know the numbers behind what he’s paid for these new films. However, a lot of people are excited about Brendan Fraser’s comeback to the big screen. Therefore, Brendan Fraser’s net worth should be on the rise again.

Brendan Fraser’s Net Worth, Income, and Assets

Celebrity Net Worth currently reports Brendan Fraser’s net worth at about $20 million. The Things explains that he used to be worth more than twice that.

Examples of What Fraser Earns on Movies

Celebrity Net Worth reports the following specific earnings:

  • $1.6 million for “The Scout” in 1994
  • $4 million for both “Duddley Do-Right” and “The Mummy” in 1999.
  • $10 million for “Bedazzled” in 2000.
  • $12.5 million for “The Mummy Returns” in 2001
  • $14 million for 2008’s “Mummy” sequel

Personal Life and Finances

Of course, Brendan Fraser’s net worth isn’t just about what he earns. There are also costs involved. In his case, they’ve been tied to his personal life. He and Afton Smith divorced in 2008. A 2013 court case related to the divorce revealed more information about his finances.

Celebrity Net Worth reports that as of 2013, Brendan Fraser’s assets were worth $25 million. He reported his monthly income at just over $200,000. He claimed another $26,000 per month in investment income. However, he also had a whole lot of expenses:

  • Over $100,000 per month to lawyers, agents, and other professionals
  • $50,000 per month in alimony
  • $34,000 per month to taxes
  • $25,000 per month in child support
  • $25,000 per month in mortgage, property taxes, etc.

He was asking the court to reduce his alimony because his earnings had declined since the time of their divorce. However, the court said at the time that unless his annual earnings went below $3 million, his alimony costs would remain the same. As of that time, Fraser spent more than he earned each month.

Furthermore, there are expenses that we can assume even if we can’t know for sure about them. For example, we know he’s had multiple surgeries, therefore he’s had medical costs. Additionally, this eldest son is on the autism spectrum, so there might be additional care required there.

Brendan Fraser’s Net Worth: $20 million

This is our best guess at Brendan Fraser’s net worth as of 2021. However, with the slew of movie credits coming up, we expect the amount to rise in the near future.

Surprisingly Frugal Celebrities

Surprisingly Frugal Celebrities

We all love learning about the lavish ways in which celebrities spend their money. Decades ago we watched it on “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.” Then there was MTV’s “Cribs” (which, you might know, is making a comeback.) Plus, of course, there’s every watch-the-lives-of-the-rich reality show from Kardashians to all of the Housewives. But, not all celebrities are spending their money on expensive cars and multiple homes. There are some surprisingly frugal celebrities out there. And those of us with less-than-celebrity-level bank accounts could do well to take some lessons from them!

Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio

Image via ©czgur/123RF.COM

If you’ve ever perused lists of surprisingly frugal celebrities in the past then chances are that you’ve seen Leonardo DiCaprio’s name there. The Richest reports that he does have more than one car but almost always just drives the sensible Toyota Prius. And while he certainly has enough money to fly on private jets whenever he wants to, he choose commercial airline flights more often than not. Being frugal doesn’t mean he’s stingy, though. He’s known for giving a lot back to charity. Of course, there could be a tax break in that, which also makes it a smart financial move.

Mel Gibson

The Richest article emphasizes the cars that surprisingly frugal celebrities choose to drive. After all, many celebrities immediately use their first paychecks to get really flashy cars. Some of them famously have dozens of six-figure cars. And yet, Mel Gibson drives a Toyota Cressida.

Dave Grohl

MoneyWise is also interested in the cars of surprisingly frugal celebrities. Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters drives a small family car. He also lives in a “just big enough” house.

Ed Sheeran

In last year’s article on stars who set good financial examples, we highlighted how frugal Ed Sheeran is. He sleeps on friend’s couches. He gives himself a small allowance each month. However, that doesn’t mean that he never spends his money. Instead, he actually spends a lot of money … but only on things that he expects to have a good ROI. He invests in real estate, cars, art, and a restaurant business. He apparently has more than two dozen properties.

So, he is one of our surprisingly frugal celebrities not because he doesn’t spend money but because of how he chooses to spend it. He skimps and saves on every day things then uses it only to make wise investments. If you’re looking for celebrity financial advice, his seems to be “frugal every day, spend big on items with a big potential return.”

Keira Knightley

One thing that Knightley has in common with Sheeran is that she keeps herself on a budget. The Richest reports that she allows herself to live on about 1/1000 of her net worth annually.

Keira Knightley

Rob Gronkowski

In that same 2020 article, we highlighted Rob Gronkowski because he’s chosen not to use any of the millions he’s earned Fromm the NFL. That’s all in savings. And unlike Sheeran, he’s not spending that money in other places like cars. Instead, he sits on it, using only his earnings from marketing to live off of. Of course, his marketing earnings are probably more than a lot of us make in a year. Nevertheless, the frugal advice here would be to develop a passive income stream and live off of that while setting aside other income for the future.

Carrie Underwood

The American Idol turned superstar is famous for clipping coupons, making her own meals, and using other frugal tips that the average person uses in life. She’s one of the surprisingly frugal celebrities who more or less lives the way that the rest of us do. While she and her husband do live in nice homes, they only have one at a time (unlike many other celebrities who keep multiple properties.) And while surely her 300-acre property wasn’t cheap, the Tennessee home allows her to live a pretty regular life with her family.

Lady Gaga

Carrie Underwood might have her Oklahoma upbringing in mind when she remembers to clip coupons. She’s not the only one. Although Lady Gaga isn’t always frugal, The Richest reports that she loves to get a good bargain. In particular, she looks for good prices at the grocery store. So, although perhaps she’s not entirely frugal all of the time, she teaches us to always keep an eye out for good prices on the things we buy most often.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Who would think that the fashion icon was frugal when it comes to clothing? If you’re a fan of hers, however, then you might know that she dresses her kids in secondhand clothing and hand-me-downs, according to Saving Advice. She herself was a big thrift shopper when she was younger. And like Underwood, Gaga, and many other stars, this has to do with remembering what it was like not to have money as a child. The Richest reports that she has an ambivalent relationship with money and will be frugal for awhile than overspend. Like most of us trying to balance our budgets, this celebrity is a work in progress.

Tyra Banks

Saving Advice also reports that Tyra Banks is one of our surprisingly frugal celebrities. Her biggest way to save money is through DIY. In particular, she likes to DIY her own home improvement projects. Where she will spend money is on things that last. In other words, she’s frugal because she’ll invest in durability and quality that will save money over the long haul. There’s a difference between being frugal and being cheap. Cheap sometimes costs more in the end!

Kristen Bell

The Richest definitely had to highlight Kristen Bell and her husband if for no other reason than that they spent less than $150 on their wedding. After all, celebrities can make this big special day as lavish as they want. And yet, she likes to keep things simple. And although she looks great dressed to the nines, she’s been known to shop at everyday bargain stores for clothes, even clothing she wears to big events.

Mila Kunis

Speaking of frugal weddings, MoneyWise reports that Mila Kunis and hubby Ashton Kutcher bought their wedding bands on Etsy for a total of under $200. They also keep Christmas frugal with just one gift from them to their kids (although the kids get plenty more from other family members.)

Other Surprisingly Frugal Celebrities

Here are some of the other celebrities mentioned in the articles linked above and below:

  • Halle Berry is known to like shopping for a bargain price on everyday items.
  • Mark Zuckerberg isn’t frugal about all things but reportedly drives a cheap car.
  • Tobey Maguire is careful about his spending habits. Like many of these celebrities, he doesn’t want to go back to being poor.
  • Tiffany Haddish, once homeless, is also careful with her money. She drives a sensible car and carries fake designer handbags (or real ones gifted to her by others.)
  • Hillary Swank, like Carrie Underwood, is a coupon clipper.
  • Jennifer Lawrence kept relatively the same lifestyle after making it famous as she had before.
  • Mariska Hargitay reportedly approached things similarly to Jennifer Lawrence.
  • Zooey Deschanel stuck to a strict annual budget while making her highest income in “The New Girl.”
  • Jay Leno put all of his “Tonight Show” earnings into investments for the future. He lived off of other comedy income.
  • Keanu Reeves uses public transportation and buys non-brand items.
